Lee left his home in Gyeyang, Incheon and headed to the headquarters of the Democratic Party of Korea in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. After greeting and encouraging party officials at the party headquarters, he left the party at 1:13 a.m.
At around 1:00 p.m., Lee moved to the front of the National Assembly and began his acceptance speech. Candidate Lee said, "Although the winner has not yet been confirmed, I am Lee Jae-myung, who has a very good chance of being elected as the 21st president of South Korea, and I would like to give my acceptance speech."
"I will never forget for a moment the mission that you have entrusted to me with high expectations, and I will carry it out without the slightest deviation," he said.
In particular, candidate Lee said that the presidential election was held on December 3rd, when the state of emergency was declared.
Candidate Lee pointed out that a crisis had started and expressed his gratitude to the people for helping them overcome it. "Six months have passed since the declaration of emergency martial law, and we have come to the realization that we are the sovereigns of this country," he said.
"Thank you all for proving this by casting your votes," he said. Candidate Lee also said, "I have five missions," and vowed, "I will definitely abide by these."
Candidate Lee emphasized his determination to revive the economy and livelihoods of the general public as he has done in the past.
"I will do my best to bring about a speedy and sure recovery from this difficult time for all of you," he said. The five pledges mentioned by candidate Lee, including economic recovery, are overcoming the civil war and restoring democracy, and strengthening the economy and the people.
These include restoring normal life for the people, protecting the lives and safety of the people, creating a peaceful and safe Korean Peninsula, and building a community where people can coexist and cooperate. Candidate Lee also puts his intention for "unification" at the forefront.
"I will never forget my responsibility as president to bring the people together in a great unity," he said, adding, "We will work together to create a world in which we live together in harmony, enjoy equal opportunities together, and suppress the strong and help the weak."
Finally, Lee emphasized the value of inclusion, saying, "Even if we have different positions, different thoughts, and different colored clothes, we are all great Korean people now."
As of 1:57 a.m. on the 4th, 88.28% of the votes had been counted, with Lee receiving 48.39%, 5.7% more than the runner-up, Kim Moon-soo (42.69%).
