Lee left his home in Gyeyang, Incheon and headed to the headquarters of the Democratic Party of Korea in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. After greeting and encouraging party officials at the party headquarters, he left the party at 1:13 a.m.
At around 1:00 p.m., Lee moved to the front of the National Assembly and began his acceptance speech.
