韓国“国民の力”院内代表が辞任…「大統領選敗北は、党分裂に対する骨身に染みる叱責」
South Korea's People Power Party floor leader resigns... ”Presidential election defeat is a deep rebuke to party division”
On the 5th, Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, resigned from his post, taking responsibility for the party's defeat in the presidential election.
"My defeat in this presidential election is not simply a judgment (by the people) on the emergency law and impeachment of the president. It is a deep rebuke to the divisions within the ruling party, the People Power Party," he said in announcing his intention to resign.
He continued, "My responsibility as floor leader is by no means light," and "I will step down from my position as floor leader." Kwon Seong-dong's decision to step down was announced by the conservative camp immediately after the presidential election defeat.
This was due to the outpouring of “leadership responsibility theory.” Kim Moon-soo, the party’s candidate, received 41.15% of the votes, beating Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate, by 8.27 percentage points.
Although Kim lost to Kwon Young-se, some have pointed out that he “failed to capture the conservative vote.” This is because, although Kim was selected as the party’s official candidate through the primary election, he was unable to win the support of Kwon Young-se.
- Regarding the "attempt to replace the candidate" with former Prime Minister Han Deok-soo under the Kwon Seong-dong administration, as well as the December 3 emergency constitutional amendment and the impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-yeol,
The criticism is directed at the fact that he was unable to quickly clarify his position and therefore was unable to achieve ``conservative unification'' with Lee Jun-seok, the candidate of the New Reform Party.
Immediately after the candidate change incident, the party's then election strategy chief, Kwon Young-se, stepped down, saying he would "take full responsibility and step down," but he continues to hold key positions.
There have been continued calls for the resignation of Countermeasures Committee Chairman Kwon Seong-dong, mainly from the pro-former party chairman Han Dong-hoon faction.
Pro-Han factions continued to make comments on the same day, saying, "We need to see the current leadership step down with dignity," and "It's possible that those who were defeated remain."
Demands for his resignation were shouted, with people saying things like, "This is unacceptable."
