President Lee Jae Myung speaks to US President Trump for the first time... ”Reaffirms the importance of the US-ROK alliance” - South Korean media

During the phone call, US President Lamp conveyed his congratulations to President Lee on his victory in the presidential election. President Lee expressed his gratitude in return and emphasized that "the foundation of Korean diplomacy is the US-ROK alliance."
The leaders highly praised each other's leadership and agreed to continue to work closely together to further develop the U.S.-ROK alliance.
In particular, the two leaders touched upon the issue of tariffs.
President Trump also invited President Lee to visit the United States. President Lee responded, "I hope that the United States and South Korea will meet frequently and hold discussions as a special alliance.
The two leaders also agreed to meet as soon as possible through opportunities such as multilateral conferences or bilateral visits to continue more in-depth discussions.
The telephone conversation was generally conducted in a friendly and open atmosphere. The two leaders shared their experiences in the presidential election, political difficulties, and even personal matters such as assassination threats, and exchanged views.
They also shared the view that "the experience of overcoming difficulties will be the foundation of strong leadership." The two leaders made golfing skills a hot topic and decided to arrange a date to play a round together.
Lee shared an episode where he was given a hat with President Trump's autograph. President Trump responded, "I look forward to meeting the famous President Lee in person soon.

The recent US-ROK summit phone call took place about a day later than previous presidents. Every president elected since the 2000s has had a phone call with the US president at least within a day.
The earliest record was held by former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who held a telephone conversation with former US President Biden five hours after his election victory was confirmed.
