On the autopsy table, a medical examiner discovers a familiar murder pattern belonging to Yoon Jo-gyun (Park Yong Woo), a serial killer known as "The Tailor," who was thought to have died 20 years ago.
This is a crime thriller in which inspector Seo Se-hyun (Park Ju-hyun) tries to find her father before police officer Jeong Jong-hyun (Kang Hoon) does, so that she doesn't fall prey to him.
The actors cited the script as the appeal of this TV series. Park Ju Hyun said, "When I first received the script, it felt very fresh and it was a work that had never been seen in Korea.
"I thought, 'This is a film that is bold and unpretentious, so I think people will find it more interesting and stimulating," she said.
Park Yong Woo also commented, "The script was very dense and well-crafted," and "It was really good to maintain the tension from the middle to the latter half of the story."
Although it's difficult, the later the series gets, the more interesting it gets." Kang Hoon agreed, saying, "I found it really refreshing that the tension continues from start to finish."
Director Lee Jeong Hoon applauded the actors for their excellent performances. He said, "I communicated with Park Ju Hyun to express Se Hyun's emotions, which are the most important and major axis.
"I created the character by closely following the characters' personalities," he said, "and I think that produced a good result." Park Yong Woo, who plays the role of a serial killer, said, "I had to fully use my imagination to create this character.
"I thought that the most frightening thing about people is that they show their bad side on a daily basis without any guilt, so I thought a lot about that," he said.
Kang Hoon, who gained 6kg to prepare for the role, said, "I did some research at the police." The intertwined relationships between the characters also contribute to the immersion. Park Ju Hyun is the father,
Park Yong Woo described his relationship with the serial killer Jo Gyun as a "tired love-hate relationship." He said of Jo Gyun, the character he played, "He believed that his twisted obsession with his daughter was love, and through that obsession, he was able to control himself."
Regarding the relationship between Sehyun and Jong Hyun, Park Ju Hyun said, "Sehyun is the only person I can rely on," while Kang Hoon said, "I was so in awe of Sehyun that I committed an act against him."
The most notable feature is the American-style format of about 30 minutes. Director Lee said, "To show the sense of speed, we decided to make it half an hour instead of an hour.
"The American format was much better," he said, explaining, "It's crammed so a lot happens within 30 minutes."
Kang Hoon also said, "The difference is that the story moves so fast," and "Even in the fast-paced development,
"If you go through all the points, it's even more interesting and full of tension," he said. "The script, the actors' passionate performances, the relationships between the characters, and the American-style format that's short and thick are all packed into this drama."
"The Hunter with a Scalpel" will be released on the 16th on U+tv, U+Mobiletv, and the global online video service (OTT), Disney+.
