According to Ganghwa County, Incheon City, South Korea, after checking with residents in the border areas of Gyodong, Songhae, and Yangsa-myeons, the number of North Koreans killed in the five days running up to this day had risen by 100.
Noisy broadcasts from North Korea to the South have been heard. Village head Ahn Hyo-cheol of Dangsan-ri, Songhae-myeon, said, "It is possible that we will be able to hear normal broadcasts from North Korean villages in the future, but at present, no noise broadcasts to the South have been heard."
On the 14th of this month, large balloons with anti-North Korea leaflets were discovered in Yangsa-myeon and Hajeom-myeon, but there were no specific actions taken by North Korea in response.
In the border area of Ganghwa County, strange noises from loudspeakers, such as sounds like cutting iron and ghostly voices, have been heard from the North Korean side during the day since July last year.
The noise continued through the night. Of the estimated 22,000 residents of Ganghwa County who were within the area affected by the noise broadcast, a significant number suffered mental and physical damage, including sleep disorders and headaches.
Ganghwa County has designated the entire county as a danger zone since November last year, banning the distribution of anti-North Korea leaflets and promoting a project to install soundproof windows in damaged homes.
