Former Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo, who had been in Hawaii, returns to Korea... ”Please refrain from political retaliation” = South Korea
Hong Jun-pyo, former mayor of Daegu, who had been in Hawaii after losing the People Power Party presidential primary election, returned to Korea on the 17th.
Former Mayor Hong met with reporters at Incheon International Airport that afternoon and said, "I hope the country will stabilize soon. A new government has been launched, so I hope the country will stabilize through national unity, without any political retaliation.
In response to a reporter's question, "I understand that you were in Hawaii thinking about what you would do for the country, but has anything been decided?", Hong replied, "I will let you know gradually."
He gave a short answer and did not say anything about the possibility of forming a new party. Former Mayor Hong left the party immediately after losing the primary election in April and announced his retirement from politics. He then departed for Hawaii on the 10th of last month and
Hong returned to the United States on the 13th. In Hawaii, Hong used Facebook to harshly criticize the then People's Power leadership for pushing for a unified presidential candidate.
He also said on his online communication channel, "Youth's Dream," that if he were to return to politics, he would form a new party with former Mayor Hong at the center.
In response to a request from a supporter asking him to "please support me," he replied, "I understand." At the time, there were rumors that former Mayor Hong would play a role in the political restructuring through a new party.
Some have interpreted this as an expression of intent.
