The company will build a pilot site in Alberta and begin additional expansion based on this.
Through its mining site in Berwyn, Texas, the company operates a total of 120 bitcoin mining machines, using a total of 425 kilowatts (kW) of power, generating 32 bitcoin mining cycles per second.
The project is being developed by energy company BlueFlare Energy, which has announced that it will generate 1000 petahashes (PH/s) of hash power.
The site will be operated by converting natural gas, which is commercially difficult to extract or mine, into "computed power."
"This way we can get up and running in weeks instead of years without having to wait for permits or grid upgrades," said CEO Jolie Khan.
"We're going to turn gas into computing right away," said Kahn, emphasizing the company's speedy deployment strategy.
Following Berwyn, the company is also expanding into Oyen and Hinton, Alberta.
The company plans to build an additional mining site using the same method in 2020 (100 tonnes) and has signed a binding memorandum of understanding with Blue Flare for this purpose.
Agrifos currently mines a total of seven bitcoins in Alberta and Ohio, USA.
The current value of the bitcoins is about $735,000 (about 100 million yen). The company plans to keep up to half of the bitcoins it mines as a bitcoin treasury and use the rest for facility expansion.
In addition, the company revealed that up to half of the funds raised through external investments and procurement can be used to directly purchase Bitcoin.
