Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba attended the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea held in Tokyo on the 19th. As South Korean President Lee Jae-myung was unable to attend the Japanese side's commemorative event,
It was thought that Prime Minister Ishiba would not attend, but his attendance this time was seen as "demonstrating the intention to improve relations with South Korea."
The event, held on the 19th at the Hotel New Otani in Tokyo and sponsored by the Korean Embassy in Japan, included Prime Minister Ishiba.
More than 1,000 people from the political and business circles of Japan and South Korea attended the event, including former Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide, who is also Chairman of the Japan-Korea Parliamentary Friendship League, former Prime Minister Kishida Fumio, and National Assembly Vice Speaker Chu Ho-young, who is also Chairman of the Korea-Japan Parliamentary Friendship League.
In his congratulatory speech, Prime Minister Ishiba said, "This year marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations, and is a monumental year. I hope that cooperation between our two countries will lead to a relationship that will be of even greater benefit to the region and the world."
Regarding his first summit meeting with President Lee, which took place during the G7 summit in Canada, Prime Minister Ishiba said, "In my first meeting with President Lee, we were able to have a good discussion in which we aligned our views."
