According to South Korean media outlet Newsis, Yoon's side stated that they would respond to the summons if the special prosecutor requested an arrest warrant at the Seoul Central District Court at 5:50 pm on the same day.
He added, "We had planned to cooperate with the investigation after adjusting the schedule after the special counsel's launch, but the special counsel never requested that we appear or issued a summons, and instead made a surprise request for an arrest warrant."
He added, "The legal representatives stated that it was unjust to request an arrest warrant immediately after the special counsel's launch, and that from now on, the special counsel will be established through proper procedures.
"We will clarify former President Yoon's position that we will actively respond to the summons if requested," he added. Prior to this, former President Yoon's side said, "We do not recognize the special counsel, so we are not considering the unconstitutional procedure.
"We are not going to comply with any request," he said. Former President Yoon's side also argued the previous day at the trial of his alleged insurrection plot, "that the special counsel law violates the right to a fair trial."
"It is unprecedented in history that a specific political force would take the lead in recommending an independent counsel, have a president from the same party appoint him, and then again exercise investigative powers," he said, indicating his view that an independent counsel should not be approved.
The defense team for former President Yoon is expected to hold a related meeting on the same day to draw up opinions on future response plans.
The prosecutors explained that since he not only did not comply, but also did not show up on the 19th of this month after the special prosecutors began their investigation, this confirmed his intention not to comply with any future summonses.
In addition, taking into consideration the continuity of the incidents, and in order to proceed with necessary investigations of suspects, the government has decided to detain former President Yoon on charges of special obstruction of public duties.
They explained that they have decided to take measures to protect the company.
