”There should be no discrimination in the given conditions”... Kang Sun-woo, candidate for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, arrives to work for the first time (South Korea)

Kang Sun-woo, a member of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea who was nominated as the first Minister of Gender Equality and Family by the Lee Jae-myung administration, has made it clear that he will strive to create a society free from discrimination and reverse discrimination.
He also mentioned the recent apartment fire in Busan, expressed condolences to the victims and their families, and pointed out the inadequate care system.
At around 2 p.m. on the 26th, Rep. Kang arrived to work for the first time at the personnel hearing preparation office in the Imah Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, and delivered the following candidate statement:
Rep. Kang said, "I want to avoid being discriminated against or discriminated against because of something I did not choose or was given at birth.
"I will make adjustments and decisions to ensure that prejudices and conflicts in our society do not impede the growth momentum of the Republic of Korea. And I will take full responsibility for those adjustments and decisions," he said.
He continued, "I want to create a path that will prevent poor children from becoming poor young people, and poor young people from becoming poor old people, so that they don't have to make extraordinary efforts to live an ordinary life.
In his remarks today, Rep. Kang expressed regret over the apartment fire that took place in Busan.
A fire broke out in the early hours of the morning after their parents had gone to work in an apartment building, killing two sisters, ages 10 and 7. Rep. Kang said, "I pray for the repose of the souls of the children who lost their lives in the fire.
I thought long and hard about what I could say to comfort the parents who have lost their children, whom they love to hold close, and who must endure this time with their children in their hearts, but I couldn't think of anything.
What if there had been even one adult who could look after them during their time, and if there had been a care system called the state by their side? I continued to feel disappointed, and my thoughts rang out like an alarm.
However, Rep. Kang did not directly deliver a message regarding women or gender equality policies.
In response to the question, "What do you think about this?", he replied, "I will replace this with a written comment," and regarding the direction of the expansion of the Gender Equality and Family Department, he said, "I will give specific details when the time comes to be able to give them."
In addition, he asked, "Are you planning to set up a new investigative committee to investigate cases of gender discrimination and sexual harassment in national institutions and programs?" and "If the Population Strategy Planning Department is established, will there be overlapping programs?"
When asked by reporters how he plans to adjust roles, he replied, "I will tell you when the time comes."
