”There's no budget”... Elementary school turns off air conditioning amid scorching heat, parents protest strongly = South Korea

An elementary school in Incheon temporarily stopped using air conditioners in classrooms due to a lack of operating funds when a heat wave warning was issued, but reversed the decision the next day after receiving strong protests from parents.
According to the Incheon City Office of Education on the 9th, an elementary school in Incheon City suspended the use of air conditioners in classrooms and other school facilities for one hour from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on the 7th.
After all the children had gone home, the use of air conditioners in the staff room, principal's office, administrative offices, etc. was stopped for one hour starting from 3:30 pm.
The school's operating budget for this year has been reduced by about 57 million won (about 6 million yen) from last year.
The budget was set at about 640 million won (about 68 million yen), and the school decided at an internal meeting on the 4th to reduce the use of air conditioners due to a lack of operating expenses, and notified parents of the decision.
However, from the first day of the measure, there was strong opposition from parents, and the school eventually withdrew the measure the next day. According to the Korea Meteorological Agency, a heat wave warning has been issued in Incheon since the 2nd,
The maximum temperature on the 7th reached 30.5 degrees. A school official said, "We temporarily stopped using the air conditioners because the budget for this year is insufficient for winter heating," and "We are currently turning on the air conditioners in the classrooms properly."
