Former President Yoon Seok-yeol may not respond to summons by special prosecutor on the 14th... Defense team: ”He is less willing to testify” = South Korea
Former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who initially refused to appear, was notified of the investigation schedule by the special prosecutor's team led by Cho Eun-seok on the afternoon of the 14th, but there is a possibility that he will refuse to appear again.
According to legal circles on the 12th, former President Yoon's legal team will meet with him at Seoul Detention Center on the morning of the 14th, when the special counsel's team requested him to attend the investigation, to confirm his intention to attend.
The defense lawyers reportedly said, "The detention center is hot, and Yoon is eating less due to diabetes, so his willingness to respond to questions and make statements has significantly decreased compared to before he was arrested."
The special counsel announced that they would begin their initial investigation at 2 pm on the 11th after Yoon was re-arrested in the early hours of the 10th following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the court.
However, the meeting fell through after former President Yoon submitted a letter of reason for his absence.
The special investigation team believes that arrest also means detention, so if this continues, they will forcibly detain and investigate.
Assistant special prosecutor Park Ji-Yeong said at a briefing the day before, "I don't know if it is deemed appropriate to not attend, but if not, we will proceed according to the Criminal Procedure Act."
"I think it's fair to say that detention includes both imprisonment and arrest, and we will consider the next steps from that perspective," he said.
Regarding the possibility of conducting detention center investigations, he said, "The basic principle is to summon people, and we have no plans to conduct detention center investigations."
In 2017, prosecutors visited former President Park Geun-hye at Seoul Detention House four days after she was arrested to conduct an investigation.
In the case of former President Lee Myung-bak, the prosecution attempted to investigate three times, but
The special counsel is considering indicting Yoon on charges of foreign currency transactions in addition to the criminal offenses listed in the arrest warrant.
