”Disaster-level heavy rain” causes a series of accidents in South Korea
As "disaster-level heavy rain" continues, road collapses and landslides are occurring one after another in various parts of South Korea. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Seoul recorded 143.2 meters of rainfall between 0:00 and 6:00 on the 17th.

Heavy rains fell in Hongcheon, with 158.5 mm. Heavy rains across the country caused accidents in various places.
A 10mm thick retaining wall of the Kajang Intersection flyover collapsed and hit a vehicle directly. A man in his 40s, Mr. A, was rescued in a state of cardiac arrest three hours after the accident and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The man was confirmed dead. Prior to the accident, a citizen had reported that the elevated road was showing signs of collapse due to rainwater seepage. At the time, the road maintenance company was dispatched to the scene.
However, they reportedly repaired a road collapse that occurred on the elevated highway toward Suwon and then withdrew. At around 6:58 a.m. on the 17th, a fire broke out at the Hanbit School for the Blind in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul.
It was reported that an abandoned house nearby had collapsed. 18 local residents evacuated and moved to temporary housing provided by the ward office or to the homes of relatives. Nine fire engines and 30 firefighters were dispatched to the scene that day.
The abandoned houses have now been restored. There have also been a number of reports of road collapses. At around 5:30 a.m. on the same day, a circular hole with a diameter of about 2 mm was discovered on a road in Aheon-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
A sinkhole occurred along the road. In Cheonan City, Chungcheongnam-do, a 3m deep sinkhole occurred on a road near Sangyong High School, and the city is in an emergency.
Also that morning, a road collapse measuring 3m wide, 4m long and 2m deep occurred in the parking lot of a clothing store across from an outlet mall in Dangjin City, South Chungcheong Province.
In Gongju, South Chungcheong Province, a collapse occurred on a national highway in Jeongan-myeon, and fire authorities restricted access.
Damage was also caused by landslides. Cheongyang County, South Chungcheong Province
In Cheongdo County, North Gyeongsang Province, two people were buried in a landslide, but they were rescued within 15 minutes by firefighters and were not seriously injured.
The mud covered one building and one car. Meanwhile, further heavy rainfall equivalent to "disaster-level torrential rain" is expected across the country. The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned that most areas of the country will be hit by heavy rain from the 17th to the 18th.
Very heavy rainfall of 30 to 50 mm per hour is forecast.
