"We must not use any excuses or legal techniques to obstruct the special counsel's investigation," Park Sang-hyuk, senior spokesman for the Democratic Party of Korea, said in a written briefing on the 19th.
"The more the special counsel's investigation progresses, the more suspicions there will be about Yoon Seok-yeo," Park said.
"We cannot allow the judicial system to be rendered powerless by the masterminds of a rebellion that sought to upset order," he said. "The more the judicial process is challenged, the heavier the punishment will be.
"I want the court to clearly show that it is not a privilege to be held accountable for the insurrection," he said.
On the 19th, the special prosecutor's team, Cho Eun-seok, who is investigating the civil unrest and foreign exchange scandals related to the December 3 emergency martial law, put former President Yoon on trial under arrest.
The charges included violating the committee's deliberative power, creating a martial law declaration after the fact, making false martial law-related announcements, ordering the deletion of private phone recordings, and obstructing the execution of an arrest warrant.
Assistant special prosecutor Park Ji-Yeon said, "If former President Yoon refuses to undergo the foreign exchange investigation, an arrest warrant will be issued and he will be forced to
"It seems there is no other option but to investigate. I don't believe that he will not cooperate with the investigation in this way. I am hopeful that he will cooperate with the investigation."
Former President Yoon was put on trial after being arrested and indicted by the Special Martial Law Investigation Headquarters of the Prosecutor's Office in January on suspicion of being a mastermind of the rebellion.
This is the second time.
