South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating ”drops” for the first time
The results of a public opinion poll announced on the 21st showed that South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's approval rating has fallen for the first time.
The South Korean polling agency "Realmeter" conducted a survey of 10,000 people from the 14th to the 18th of this month.
According to a regular survey conducted in the third week of July among 2,514 voters aged 18 and over, President Lee's approval rating was 62.2%, while disapproval was 32.3% and 5.5% were "not sure."
President Lee's approval rating had been steadily rising in Real Meter's surveys up until now, but this time it "dropped" for the first time by 2.4 percentage points from the previous survey (64.6%).
Realmeter reported, "His approval rating is still in the low 60s, but he is facing political uncertainty due to the selection of ministerial candidates, the "civil war" special prosecutors' raids, and record lows.
The poll showed that the number of voters aged 18 and over was 1,003 on the 17th and 18th of this month.
According to a survey on party approval ratings conducted among the target group, the ruling Democratic Party of Korea received 50.8% of the votes, while the People Power Party received 27.4%.
Realmeter reported that the ruling party's approval rating has fallen for the first time in four weeks, and the "power of the people" is on the decline.
"The approval rating of President Lee rose," he said, and "the gap between the two parties narrowed from 31.9 percentage points to 23.4 percentage points." He continued, "The ruling party is facing a decline in the approval rating of President Lee, as well as the decline of the ministerial candidates.
"The failure of the opposition parties to provide explanations at the hearings and the strong opposition parties' calls for the candidates to withdraw are likely factors that contributed to the drop in support."
