A man in his 60s who killed his son in his 30s with a homemade gun on his birthday was seen leaving his home in Dobong-gu, Seoul carrying a large suitcase just hours before the crime.
CCTV footage released by YTN on the 21st showed suspect A walking into Incho's apartment in Ssangmun-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul at around 4 p.m. on the 20th.
He was seen pulling a large suitcase before heading to his son B's house in Songdo, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon.
Suspect A repeatedly checked the contents of his travel bag and appeared nervous.
He went down to the parking lot, loaded his suitcase into the trunk of the rental car, and headed to B's apartment. Later, around 9:30, suspect A fired a homemade gun on the 33rd floor of an apartment building in Songdo-dong.
He killed Mr. B. The day of the crime was Suspect A's birthday, and it was reported that Mr. B was holding a party, with Mr. B, his wife, two children, and acquaintances in attendance.
Fifteen types of flammable materials, including plastic bottles filled with paint thinner, detergent bottles, and milk bottles, as well as ignition devices, were found in Suspect A's home.
It was learned that the timer was set to ignite at noon on the 21st. During police investigation, suspect A said, "I learned how to make a firearm on YouTube, and I bought the bullets 20 years ago and have been keeping them in my warehouse ever since."
As for the reason for killing his son, he said, "There was family discord. After I divorced my wife 20 years ago, my relationship with my son deteriorated."
The police plan to deploy profilers from the Seoul Police Station, Incheon Police Station, and Southern Gyeonggi Police Station to conduct a detailed analysis of suspect A's mental state and specific motive for the crime.
Meanwhile, on the 21st, Incheon Yeonsu Police Station applied for an arrest warrant for suspect A on charges of murder, violation of the law on the safety management of firearms, swords, and explosives, and attempted arson of an occupied building.
The police, who made an emergency arrest of suspect A on suspicion of murder and other offences, also charged him with attempted arson in relation to the crime of placing flammable materials in his home.
