[Exclusive] ”ASTRO” new unit born... ”Junijini” debuts in August

ASTRO will debut a new unit (subgroup).

According to an interview with Edaily on the 22nd, ASTRO's new unit will release their first song and begin activities in August.

The new unit is a duo consisting of members MJ (real name Kim Myung-jun) and Jinjin (real name Park Jin-woo). The unit name is “Junijini.” This name was created by combining the affectionate nicknames ‘Jun’ and “Jini” that fans use to refer to MJ and Jinjin.

This marks the third time that ASTRO, which debuted in 2016, has formed a unit. Prior to this, the unit “Munbin & Sana,” featuring the late Munbin and Yuna, and the unit “Jinjin & Raki,” featuring Jinjin and Raki, released unit songs and actively promoted their activities.

The new unit featuring MJ and JinJin has seen both members excel as main vocalist and main rapper within their respective groups. The synergy they will create through this collaboration is highly anticipated.

MJ and JinJin have recently expanded their activities into the musical theater scene. MJ has appeared in works such as 'Jamie', 'Jack the Ripper', 'Winter Traveler', and 'Zorro: Actor-Musician'. Jinjin has met audiences through 'Crash Landing on You' and the SHOW MUSICAL 'Dream High'.
The combination of members who have honed their stage presence through musical theater activities is a point that heightens expectations for ASTRO's new unit.
Meanwhile, ASTRO marked the second anniversary of the passing of their late member Moonbin in April and released the memorial song 'Moon', which was completed with the participation of several K-POP idol singers. On the 7th and 8th of last month, they successfully concluded their fourth solo concert, “The 4th ASTROAD Stargraphy,” at the Incheon Inspire Arena.

They also held solo concerts under the same title at the Mizho PayPay Dome Fukuoka in Japan on the 28th and 29th of the same month, proving their enduring popularity. The concerts were made even more meaningful by the participation of Raki, who had left the group to pursue a solo career.
