マスク氏「イ・ジェヨン氏などサムスン経営陣とビデオ通話、両社で成果出す」
Musk holds video call with Samsung executives, including Lee Jae-Yeong, to ”achieve results together”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that he had directly communicated with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-Yeong to discuss specific cooperation plans between the two companies.
On the 29th (local time), Musk said on social media X (formerly Twitter) that "I had a video call with the Samsung Chairman and the Advanced management team to discuss a substantial partnership.
"We discussed the matter," he said, adding, "We will achieve great results by leveraging the strengths of both companies." His remarks were echoed by X user X, who said, "I have no idea what Samsung Electronics signed."
The comment appeared in response to the post saying, "They know." Another user wrote, "Samsung Electronics, which is behind TSMC in chip manufacturing technology, will be applied to AI6 chips.
"It's unclear whether they can achieve the 2-nanometer technology required," Musk countered, "Both TSMC and Samsung are great companies, and it's an honor to work with them."
The day before, Samsung Electronics announced a 22.7648 trillion won (approx. 1.28 trillion won) deal with a "major global company" without disclosing key details such as the contract partner and production process, due to "a request from the contract partner to protect trade secrets."
The contract period runs until December 31, 2033, and the contract amount represents 7.6% of the company's recent sales.
Musk then announced that Samsung Electronics' new Texas factory will be dedicated to producing Tesla's next-generation AI6 chips.
"We plan to do this," Musk said, making it official that Samsung Electronics is a customer of Tesla. According to Musk, Samsung Electronics is currently producing Tesla's AI4 chip. The AI4 chip is a test chip.
This is the core technology behind Tesla's autonomous driving, and Tesla plans to install AI6 chips in its vehicles in the future, following the AI5 chip produced through Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest foundry company.
He added, "Samsung has authorized Tesla to help maximize manufacturing efficiency. This is a very important point, and I will personally visit the site to monitor the progress speed."
"Samsung Electronics' semiconductor factory is conveniently located not far from my home," Musk said. Musk also mentioned the 22 trillion won contract amount with Samsung Electronics.
He also said, "It's only the minimum amount. In reality, it will be several times higher." Samsung Electronics will manufacture the AI6 chips it has ordered from Tesla at a foundry in Taylor, Texas, USA.
The factory will use the latest ultra-fine process to produce the chips. Samsung Electronics is currently building a foundry factory in the region, aiming to start operations next year. At the end of last year, it began producing AI chips using a 4-nanometer process.
However, due to pressure from companies such as TSMC, the world's largest foundry, the company had difficulty securing customers and the start of operations at the factory was delayed.
