A 40-year-old woman who posted over 200 false comments alleging that actor Gong Yoo had been subjected to surveillance, hacking, and threats will face legal punishment for her malicious posts.

　On the 29th, according to legal sources, the Criminal Division 5 of the Daejeon District Court sentenced A, who was indicted on charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation), to six months in prison, suspended for two years.

　A connected to a live stream conducted by Gong Yoo on the internet at midnight on January 14, 2020, and posted comments such as, “I am being threatened behind the scenes, and there is not a single day without threats,” and “I am being tormented to the point of neurosis every day,” implying that Gong Yoo was monitoring, threatening, and tormenting A, thereby defaming his reputation.

　In fact, A did not personally know Gong Yoo, had not been subjected to sexual assault or sexual harassment, and had not been subjected to any illegal acts, yet A defamed Gong Yoo's reputation with false facts.

Additionally, A is said to have posted false comments and writings on the internet a total of 235 times until March 21, 2021.

　The court stated, “Not only are the claims made by A baseless, but he also continuously spread false information over a long period of time, and since the victim is a public figure who attracts public attention, the nature of the crime is extremely serious.” The court also noted, “Although A has a history of being punished twice for similar crimes in the past, we took into consideration the fact that he admitted to the crime and promised to undergo treatment at a hospital.”

　In connection with this, Management SOOP, the agency representing Gong Yoo, stated, “The perpetrator repeatedly posted articles and comments containing false information on internet sites, severely damaging the actor's reputation. The court clearly recognized the malicious intent and severity of such actions and found the defendant guilty.”

　Furthermore, the agency emphasized, “We will continue to take strong measures without any leniency or compromise, starting with the ongoing case and moving forward.”
