韓国の脱北民が国内の情報を「北に流出」…「国家保安法違反」の容疑で調査
A North Korean defector in South Korea is being investigated for allegedly ”leaking domestic information to the North” and ”violating the National Security Act.”
A North Korean defector in his 70s residing in South Korea is under police investigation on suspicion of leaking information about North Korean defectors in South Korea to North Korea. The Ulsan Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 4th that the investigation violated the National Security Act (for the purpose of carrying out the purpose).
"We are investigating defector A due to suspicions that he was involved in a crime," the ministry said. Defector A is reportedly under suspicion of informing the Ministry of State Security, North Korea's intelligence agency, of the location of North Korean defectors living in South Korea.
The "crime of carrying out a purpose under the National Security Act" applies when a member of an anti-national organization such as North Korea or a person under their orders carries out an act to carry out that purpose, and includes the detection and collection of state secrets.
Collecting, leaking, transmitting, or intermediating such information is punishable by a minimum of two years in prison, and in some cases, the death penalty or life imprisonment.
Regarding this matter, a police official said, "As the matter is under investigation, we cannot confirm the details."
