South Korean President Lee Jae Myung expressed his deep condolences to the victims of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombings on the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings, saying, "We must uphold the value of peace so that the horrors of war will never be repeated."

"There are still many areas that need improvement," he said, adding, "Our government will continue to make efforts to heal the scars of the atomic bomb." He added, "Every year, memorial services for the victims are held in Korea and Japan.
"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Korean Residents Union in Japan who have erected the memorial and organized the memorial service."
