President Lee Jae Myung marks 80th anniversary of atomic bombing... ”We will firmly uphold the value of peace” = South Korea

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung expressed his deep condolences to the victims of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombings on the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings, saying, "We must uphold the value of peace so that the horrors of war will never be repeated."
On the 5th, President Lee said through Fei Su-ho, "The two atomic bombs dropped on Japan 80 years ago took the lives of countless people in an instant."
"I would like to convey my deepest condolences and sympathies to my fellow atomic bomb victims who have suffered time and again in the rough waves of history in a country that is not even their homeland," he wrote.
He continued, "The Special Act on Support for Korean Atomic Bomb Victims was enacted in 2017, and a substantial foundation for support was established, but when I think about the long time that has passed,
"There are still many areas that need improvement," he said, adding, "Our government will continue to make efforts to heal the scars of the atomic bomb." He added, "Every year, memorial services for the victims are held in Korea and Japan.
"I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Korean Residents Union in Japan who have erected the memorial and organized the memorial service."
