A total of 330 students from 84 countries participated in this competition, and all four high school students from the Korean delegation won gold medals. This is the first time that all members of the Korean delegation have won gold medals since Korea was in 1990.
This was the first time that this had happened since the team began participating in the competition in 1992. In particular, one of the delegates achieved nearly perfect scores on six questions, placing them second in the world in individual rankings.
Kim Sang-yeol, chairman of the Korea Information Olympiad at the Korea Information Science Education Association, who led the Korean delegation, said, "There were many twists and turns in participating in the competition.
"I am very pleased that we were able to achieve the world's top ranking despite the challenges. I am proud of the passion and ability that the representative students demonstrated on the world stage. I look forward to seeing even greater success from them in the future."
Meanwhile, the Korean delegation is scheduled to participate in other international science Olympiads in fields such as earth science and astronomy after this competition.
