Gyeonggi Province education authorities call for 'all possible support' for high school students who lost family members in torrential rains (South Korea)
Last month, a landslide caused by heavy rain in the Gapyeong area of Gyeonggi Province hit a family camping, leaving only one high school student alive.
According to the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education on the 8th, officials at the provincial office have recently been voluntarily collecting donations to help A. The fundraising is scheduled to continue until the 13th of this month.
On the 20th of last month, a landslide caused by heavy rain occurred at a campsite in Mai-ri, Chojeong-myeon, Gapyeong-gun, hitting the glamping site.
At the time, Mr. A, who was visiting the campsite with his parents and elementary school-aged siblings, was rescued by the fire department and rescue team.
A, who was rescued, was seriously injured and had to undergo surgery at the hospital. A's father was found dead on the Daebo Bridge in Daebo-ri, a few kilometers from the scene, in the early hours of the same day.
His siblings and mother were later found dead on the 24th and 31st, respectively. Currently, A's acquaintances and friends, school teachers and staff, and the Provincial Office of Education are attending the funeral of A's family.
On the 7th of this month, Lim Tae-hee, Gyeonggi Province Superintendent of Education, visited the funeral home of A's family and after paying her respects, she came to help A together with the Regional Education Office.
Superintendent Lim said, "We will provide all possible support at the education office level, including legal consultations, psychological treatment, and other financial support, so that Mr. A will not feel lonely.
An official from the provincial education office said, "As a family of Gyeonggi Education, we wanted to help A-kun, so our staff started fundraising while looking for ways to help."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is conducting psychological tests on students in the same grade as the deceased siblings at the elementary school they attended, and is conducting a condolence program.
The group operates a special counseling center with Gram, and provides counseling and psychological and emotional support to students and faculty at A's high school, as well as to A's sibling's homeroom teacher.
