JYP Entertainment (hereinafter referred to as JYP) has been promoting social content called “JYP 4 EARTH” as part of its ESG management since 2023. “JYP 4 EARTH” is a campaign where JYP artists engage in various activities for a better planet and convey a positive outlook toward a sustainable society. Last year, ‘2PM’ members JUN. K, Nickhun, and Wooyoung, along with “ITZY,” participated. This year, “TWICE” members Nayeon, Momo, and Tzuyu joined the initiative.
In two videos titled “A World Where Diversity is Respected,” released on July 31st and August 7th on JYP's official YouTube channel, Nayeon, Momo, and Tzuyu participated in a picture book creation activity targeting children with illnesses overseas, which has been ongoing since 2022 as part of JYP's representative CSR project “EDM (Every Dream Matters! : Every Dream Matters!).” The picture book features a story where characters with different disabilities live together, encouraging readers to reflect on a world where everyone lives in harmony and emphasizing the importance of mutual respect.
Additionally, Nayoung, Momo, and Tzuyu met with Lee Hyun-jung, the representative of Books International, which produces the EDM picture books, to discuss the emotional role of the picture books, the countries they are distributed to, and the reasons behind creating them in the native languages of the children with illnesses. They read the picture books aloud to send messages of encouragement to Filipino children and meticulously worked on traditional decorations and illustrations to complete a one-of-a-kind Tagalog-language picture book.
The three members not only worked on the picture book but also learned about the characteristics of the four disabilities—physical disabilities, hearing impairments, developmental disabilities, and visual impairments—that the main characters have. Under the guidance of Yu In-son, the team leader of the Disability Rights Research Institute, they also tried using assistive devices to deepen their understanding of various communication methods. They also pointed out that everyday expressions like “computer disability (system disability)” and “choice disability” could unintentionally reinforce negative perceptions of disabilities, emphasizing the importance of language use.
After completing the activity, Nayon, Momo, and Tzuyu shared their thoughts: "We hope the picture book we created will provide emotional support for children with illnesses. We must never forget that we all live in society together, each with our own unique characteristics. I feel that it is important to cherish each and every one of us, as we are all irreplaceable."
TWICE celebrated their 10th anniversary this year. On July 11th, they released their 4th album, THIS IS FOR, and kicked off their 6th world tour, THIS IS FOR, with performances in Incheon on the 19th and 20th. On August 2nd local time, they appeared as the headliner at the mega music festival “Lollapalooza Chicago” held at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois, USA, showing their presence as “the world's leading girl group.”
