Father who killed his son with a gun also modified the bullets to increase their lethality... ”Meticulous planning” - South Korea
It has been revealed that a father in his 60s who killed his son with a homemade gun had meticulously planned the crime, even scouting the area two months prior to the crime and changing the date of the murder.
The suspect was also found to have modified live ammunition. On the 14th, the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office announced that it had arrested and indicted a man named Cho (62) on charges of murder and attempted murder.
The prosecution is investigating Cho's mobile phone data history, shared car usage, GPS history, and internet shopping history.
After analyzing Gumor's purchasing history, the police confirmed that Cho had been making homemade guns for a year before the crime, and that he had been practicing driving in a shared car and scouting the area in advance for two months.
Prosecutors explained that Cho had also tried to kill his son (33) with a homemade gun a week before the crime, but had carefully planned the attack, even changing the date.
Cho was in possession of about 180 live rounds of ammunition from a shotgun he purchased through a second-hand transaction about 20 years ago, and posted a video of himself using the gun on YouTube around August last year.
He learned how to make guns and modify ammunition, and made a gun by cutting up an iron pipe he purchased through an internet shopping mall. He also modified the ammunition to increase its lethality.
Cho also decided to burn down A's belongings at the residence in Dobong-gu, Seoul, where he lived with his ex-wife A and their son, and in August of last year,
He learned how to make a time bomb and an incendiary device through YouTube. Then, at around 5 pm on the 20th of last month, he used an electric current to ignite the incendiary device, cotton, and paint thinner (34 liters) in sequence.
The prosecution pointed out the seriousness of the danger that if the explosive device had gone off as planned, a fire could have caused a catastrophe for the residents of 18 households.
Taking this into consideration, the police have changed the charge of preparing to set fire to an inhabited building that they had applied to Cho to the charge of attempted arson of an inhabited building.
"We have determined that the act of setting up the fire was the beginning of an arson attack," he said. Meanwhile, Cho's latest crime was motivated by a desire for revenge after his ex-wife, A, and their son's financial support was cut off.
The prosecution said that Cho had been earning a living without a fixed job and had received monthly support from A and his son, but A and his son later found out that he had been receiving double support.
The court determined that the crime was committed because Cho had stopped providing financial support from around the end of 2023. Due to the suspension of financial support, the defendant had insufficient funds for entertainment and living expenses, and was unable to make special arrangements.
Without verifying their true relationship, he became delusional and believed that Mr. A and his son had deceived him and isolated him, and he decided to take revenge by killing Mr. A's precious son and his family, and committed the crime.
The prosecutor explained that this was confirmed.
