The man hacked into the websites of mobile phone companies between August 2023 and January last year, illegally obtaining personal information, and then opened mobile phones in the victims' names and used their bank accounts.
It was revealed that they had stolen huge amounts of money by withdrawing assets such as deposits from bank accounts and cryptocurrency accounts.
It has been confirmed that many wealthy individuals have been affected. Among the victims was BTS's JUNG KOOK. In January of last year, shortly after he enlisted in the military, his securities account was stolen and he was arrested for eight years.
It has been revealed that a total of 33,500 HYBE shares worth 400 million won (approximately 900 million yen) were stolen. At the time, the management office recognized the damage and took measures such as suspending payments, which was considered to be a substantial loss.
The Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and Interpol, was tracking the criminal's materials when it received intelligence that the man had entered Thailand in April of this year and immediately took action against him.
The government requested the man's urgent extradition and detention. After that, the government dispatched prosecutors and investigators to Thailand and engaged in continuous discussions with the Thai authorities regarding methods and perspectives for extradition of criminals. The man was sent to Korea within four months.
