Kim Moon-soo, who advanced to the final round of the People Power Party leadership election, said on the 22nd, "The fact that I alone did not get more than 50% of the votes means that the People Power Party has a future.
"I am pleased to be given the task of leading the party," he said. On the same day, the party convention held at Cheongju OSCO in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, ended.
Immediately after the election, he held a press conference and said, "If I had received more than 50% of the votes, I would have been very happy." Candidate Kim said, "This is the dynamics of the people's power. In that respect,
"The Party Congress itself is very desirable and is proceeding smoothly," he said. "The convention will have a significant effect. Through the Party Congress, public interest will be further heightened and various aspects will be improved.
If Kim becomes the party leader, he will resolve the internal conflict over whether to impeach former President Yoon Seok-yeol through 'tolerance'.
Candidate Kim reaffirmed his intention to do so. "Dialogue comes first. We need to meet many people, talk, and debate, and if that doesn't work, we need to vote within the party and reach a democratic decision among party members to resolve differences between us," he said.
I believe I can play a role in making the process of unifying all these ideas universally established, and I will work hard to achieve that goal."
"Isn't this more of a dictatorship than a democracy?" he said. With the runoff election approaching, Kim spoke out against his rivals in the pro-impeachment camp, Ahn Cheol-soo and Cho Kyung-tae.
When asked if he intended to meet with lawmaker Keita, he left the possibility open by saying, "To the greatest extent possible, I believe that all of these people are necessary for the power of the people."
When asked about his strategy until the 26th, when the results of the runoff election will be announced, he said, "The conclusion is who will win, Lee Jae-myung's Democratic Party or Lee Jae-myung's Democratic Party?
Candidate Kim said, "I have been studying the fighting techniques of President Lee Jae-myung and Jeong Cheong-rae, both of whom are the leaders of the Democratic Party, in every corner of the Democratic Party.
I think I know a lot about each person's personalities and the goals they are aiming for. I hope that if we emphasize these points, we will see very good results."
Candidate Kim also stated, "In the current situation, I think it will be difficult for the People Power Party to win the in-house struggle. (If I become the party leader) I will take part in both the in-house struggle and the outside struggle."
He said, "We will launch a widespread national resistance movement. Rather than starting a fire and waving it around, I will continue the movement to move public opinion."
The People's Power Party representative election was held on the 20th and 21st, and the party member voters were selected using the mobile ARS system.
As a result of the group and general public opinion polls, no candidate received more than half of the votes, so a runoff election was held between the first and second place candidates.
The runoff election will be held on the 26th, with debates on the 23rd and opinion polls on the 24th and 25th, and the results will be announced on the 26th.
