Commercial freight transport volume in July reached 4.97 billion tons, up 3.4% from the same month last year. By transport mode,
Rail transport increased 4.5%, road transport 3.3%, waterway transport 3.4%, and civil aviation 15.3%. Commercial freight transport volume in the first seven months of the year reached 33 billion tonnes, up 3.8% from the same period last year.
Port cargo handling volume showed relatively high growth. Port cargo handling volume in July was 1.54 billion tons, up 6.9% from the same month last year, and the growth rate was 2.2 percentage points higher than the previous month.
Cargo handling volume for January to July increased 4.4% year-on-year to 10.44 billion tons, and container handling volume increased 6.2% year-on-year to 200 million tons.
The number of people moving between regions continued to increase. In July, the number of people moving between regions reached 5.71 billion, up 2.2% from the same month last year. The growth rate was 1.7% higher than the previous year.
By means of transportation, rail travel increased by 6.6%, waterways by 2.1%, civil aviation by 3.9%, and road travel by 1.8%.
The total number of passengers increased by 3.9% compared to the same period last year to 39.46 billion. In addition, the scale of investment in fixed assets related to transportation remained at a high level. 6.3 trillion yen), and in January-July it was 1.95 trillion yen (approximately 40.3 trillion yen).
