The agreement aims to build a foundation for organizational cooperation between leading research institutes in Japan and Korea and to develop carbon neutral technologies that can be applied to policy and industrial fields.
The two organizations will cooperate in supporting joint research and analysis, academic exchanges, co-hosting workshops and events, publishing publications, and conducting joint research.
Secretary General Yoshiyuki Shimoda said, "RITE will work with the Institute of Energy Economics to promote practical cooperation, based on its accumulated experience in the fields of system analysis and low-carbon technology.
"We will create a verifiable cooperation model," he said, adding, "In particular, we will rapidly advance joint research on improving energy efficiency, downsizing scenarios for the industrial sector, carbon capture, utilization and storage, and hydrogen, and we will work to develop a more sustainable Asia-Pacific region."
"This agreement will contribute to achieving carbon neutrality in the world," said Kim Hyun-jae, president of the Energy Economics Institute. "The agreement will simultaneously achieve on-site policy research and decarbonization in the industrial sector."
"We hope that the two organizations will combine their accumulated knowledge and networks to present effective solutions for the transition to a clean energy system," he said.
