1.36 million foreign tourists visited Seoul in July, a record high

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 2nd that the number of foreign tourists visiting Seoul in July reached a record high of 1.36 million, a 23.1% increase compared to the same month last year.
This is 18.2% more than in July 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic. By country, the number of cases is higher in China (470,000), Japan (240,000), and the number of cases is higher in Japan (240,000).
The top three countries were South Korea (10,000), Taiwan (160,000), and the United States (100,000). A total of 8.28 million foreign tourists visited Seoul from January to July this year, a 15.9% increase from the same period last year.
Seoul is providing a variety of experience content and safe, smart facilities that are popular with the growing number of global MZ (Millennial and Z) tourists.
The report analyzed that the increase in tourists is due to factors such as the digital-centric transportation and accommodation infrastructure, and the city's charm in which tradition and modernity are harmoniously combined.
He added that with the "Hunters" boom, the number of tourists from various countries, including Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, the United States, and Europe, is increasing.
Seoul City is promoting the global travel trend of "solo travel" and the daily life of locals.
He said that the impact was due to the promotion of a strategy that reflected the "No-Normal" approach to tourism, which solidified the foundation for attracting tourists.
He praised the success of the project, including the creation of tourism infrastructure that makes it easy for people to travel alone, seasonal events to realize a "Fun City," and the discovery of the attractions of tourism in each area of the city center.
Moreover, Seoul is constantly cultivating its international reputation, such as being ranked as the number one in Asia for hosting international conferences by the United Nations Association, and is actively working to increase its competitiveness and attract 30 million foreign tourists.
