China's CPI fell 0.4% in August from a year earlier: Chinese media
The National Bureau of Statistics recently released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August. According to the report, the national CPI for August fell 0.4% compared to the same month last year. Of this, the urban CPI fell 0.4%.
Prices in the industrial sector fell 4.3%, while prices in rural areas fell 0.6%. Food prices fell 4.3%, non-food prices rose 0.5%, consumer goods prices fell 1.0%, and service prices rose 0.6%.
Looking at the average value for January to August, the national CPI fell 0.1% compared to the same period last year. Among food prices, the price of pork fell 16.1% compared to the same period last year, fresh vegetables fell 15.2%, and fruit fell 3.7%.
On the other hand, the national CPI for August was flat compared to July. Of these, urban areas were flat and rural areas increased by 0.1%. Food prices increased by 0.5% and non-food prices increased by 0.1%.
Prices for pork fell 0.5%, fresh vegetables rose 8.5%, and fruit fell 2.8%.
