[30th Busan International Film Festival] ”The Wedding Banquet” Yoon Yeo-Jung: ”Korea is still a conservative country, and homosexuals and heterosexuals are all the same 'human beings'”
Yoon YeoJung shared the message behind the film "The Wedding Banquet," which depicts the marriage of a same-sex couple.
The press conference for "The Wedding Banquet," an official invitational film for the 30th Busan International Film Festival, was held on the 19th at the Busan Cinema Center in Woo-dong, Haeundae, Busan.
The event was held in Seoul. Director Andrew Ahn and actors Yoon Yeo-Jung and Han Ki-Chan were in attendance.
"Banquet" is a story about two gay couples struggling between the expectations of their parents' generation and traditional values.
The film depicts the process of a couple planning a fake marriage after their parents strongly expect them to get married and have grandchildren. Based on the 1993 film of the same name by Ang Lee, this is a modern remake by director Andrew Ang.
With its insightful theme, the film was invited to the premiere section of the 41st Sundance Film Festival. Yoon Yeo-Jung said, "I wish Korea had made more progress on these issues."
"I want you to understand that homosexuals are equal to heterosexuals, but having lived in Korea for 79 years, I still think Korea is a conservative country," he explained.
Han Ki-chan said, "I don't want that to happen. We are all the same people."
"I thought I wanted to love that person's soul, and when you love someone, not a man or a woman, you love their inner self. I wanted to know who you are and
"I want to convey the message, 'Hey, find the one you love.'" He said that for someone born and raised in Korea, learning English was more difficult than the role itself, and he continued to study English throughout the filming of the movie.
It was a sequel to "The Wedding," directed by Andrew Ahn and starring Yoon Yeo-Jung and Han Ki-chan.
"Banquet" will be released in Korean cinemas on the 24th.
