President Lee stranded in New York for Trump's ceremony - South Korean media
President Lee Jae-myung was stranded in the streets of New York due to traffic restrictions in place for a ceremony for U.S. President Donald Trump.
A video posted on social media showed President Lee and his entourage waiting in front of a crosswalk with a traffic control fence at a red light.
Judging from President Lee's tie and appearance, the video is believed to have been filmed before or after his keynote speech at the UN General Assembly.
In the video, President Lee's bodyguards are seen having a serious conversation with the police.
"The security guards don't look happy. Only in New York can you see a head of state wandering around on the streets," the video's creator wrote.
Soon after, President Lee and his entourage secured a clear path and quickly moved on foot, he added, adding, "The security personnel finally managed to get President Lee out of the scene."
President Trump's car arrived after President Lee had left on foot. The person filming the video said, "Five minutes after President Lee left, the car arrived."
"The lamplighter's motorcade has arrived," he said, and then filmed President Trump passing by in his car. Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron had experienced a similar incident.
On the 22nd, French media outlet Brut reported on a "somewhat unusual scene" that they had spotted in the streets of New York.
President Macron and his entourage were also blocked by President Trump's motorcade as they emerged from a speech at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
President Macron then called Trump directly and greeted him, saying, "How are you?" and then said, "I'm waiting on the road right now. It's your fault.
"All the roads are blocked," he joked, mixed with complaints. However, President Macron was no exception, and ended up walking more than 30 minutes to get to the French embassy.
Not only that, but Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also found himself in a similar situation. A video of the incident showed Erdogan, surrounded by his entourage and security guards, entering Trump's vehicle.
The president was seen looking displeased as he was blocked from moving by the queue. The leaders of the world are visiting New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly from the 21st to the 25th of this month.
Internet users have been criticizing the incidents involving world leaders that have arisen because of the president, saying things like, "The U.S. side is acting arrogantly" and "They are inconsiderate."
President Lee arrived at Seoul Airport on the evening of the 26th after completing a three-night, five-day visit to the United States.
