Doosan Group is considering acquiring SK Siltron, a semiconductor wafer company. According to industry sources, Doosan Corporation is in negotiations with SK Group to acquire SK Siltron on the 1st.
The acquisition target is 70.6% of SK Siltron's shares held by SK Corporation. The remaining stake in SK Siltron is held by SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, who holds 29.4%.
The Doosan Group owns a small modular reactor.
Doosan Group is reportedly promoting semiconductors as a future growth engine for the group, along with SMR (Super Mixed Reaction), robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI).
The deal is expected to significantly strengthen SK Siltron's semiconductor business portfolio. SK Siltron's enterprise value is approximately 5 trillion won (approximately 523.5 billion yen), of which approximately 3 trillion won is in borrowings.
It is expected that a transaction for a 70.6% stake could be made at a level of approximately 1.5 trillion to 2 trillion won (approximately 157 billion to 209.3 billion yen), excluding the 2017 acquisition price of approximately 1.5 trillion to 2 trillion won (approximately 314 billion yen).
SK Siltron, established in 1983, is a leading company that holds the third largest share in the global market for 12-inch wafers.
