South Korea's presidential office holds emergency meeting for tariff negotiations... Results of previous day's ”US-ROK Trade Ministers' Meeting” shared
On the 5th, the South Korean Presidential Office held an emergency meeting to discuss trade issues related to the US-South Korea tariff negotiations. According to the office, the meeting was co-chaired by Kim Yong-beom, Chief of Staff to the Presidential Office for Policy, and Wi Seong-nak, Director of the National Security Advisor.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Strategy and Finance Koo Yoon-cheol, Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun, and Director-General of the Trade Negotiations Headquarters Yeo Hang-gu, as well as other ministers of relevant departments.
Other attendees included Ha Jun-kyung, senior secretary for economic growth at the presidential office, and Oh Hyun-joo, third deputy director of the National Security Office. Kim Jong-gwan, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy (Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), attended the meeting via wired link.
Minister Kim Jong-kwan shared the results of his meeting with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, who was in the United States on the 4th (local time).
The two leaders discussed how to respond to future tariff negotiations. The Blue House said, "The government plans to continue follow-up discussions with the US side on tariff negotiations based on the principle of prioritizing national interests."
