South Korean government dispatches joint response team to Cambodia
Following the incident in Cambodia in which a Korean national was held captive and killed, President Lee Jae-myung expressed his strong will to resolve the matter.
In order to expedite the return of the materials, the government decided to dispatch a joint response team led by the second vice minister of foreign affairs to the site.
"The president has stated that the protection of the victims and the swift repatriation of those involved in the incident must be ensured above all else," and "he has ordered the immediate mobilization of all means and support to ensure the safety of the people."
After the closed-door meeting, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, and the National Police Agency reported on the status of their response to the Cambodian job fraud confinement victims and their future plans for action.
The government has decided to dispatch a joint response team to Cambodia, headed by the head of the National Police Agency and the National Intelligence Service. In order to prevent further damage, travel warnings will be issued for major crime areas in Cambodia.
"We will make every diplomatic effort to gain the cooperation of the Cambodian government, and will also consider raising the ranks of the police attaché at the Korean Embassy in Cambodia in consultation with relevant departments," Kim said.

The National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters Chief will personally depart as part of the joint response team. The Chief will be in charge of the Cambodian side's detention of Korean nationals and the dispatch of additional police officers.
In Japan, the two sides will hold discussions on the issue and will also jointly investigate the murder of a university student.
