Prime Minister Takaichi: ”I hope to meet with President Lee Jae-myung at APEC... Korea-Japan relations are important” - South Korean media

On the 21st, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said, "The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in South Korea next week will be a valuable opportunity to meet with leaders from various countries," and expressed her "high expectations."
The APEC summit will be held in Gyeongju from the 31st of this month to the 1st of next month. At the first press conference since taking office held at the Prime Minister's Office that evening, Prime Minister Takaichi said, "APEC is an important region.
"It is a forum for maintaining and strengthening a rules-based, free, and fair economic order within the framework of regional cooperation," he said, adding, "I want Japan to demonstrate its presence and restore diplomacy that blooms magnificently at the center of the world."
Takaichi also emphasized that "Japan-South Korea relations are becoming increasingly important, and I hope to meet with President Lee Jae-myung."
On the same day, President Lee announced on his Facebook page that Takaichi had been selected as the new prime minister, saying, "The APEC summit
"I hope to meet with Prime Minister Takaichi in person in Gyeongju and have a constructive dialogue. I would like to congratulate her on her appointment as prime minister once again."
Prime Minister Takaichi will attend the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit in Malaysia on the 26th.
Regarding US President Trump, he said, "The Japan-US alliance is the cornerstone of Japan's diplomacy and security," and added, "If I could meet with President Trump, I would like to have a frank exchange of opinions and build a relationship of trust between the leaders."
"I intend to deepen this relationship," he said. President Trump is scheduled to visit Japan from the 27th to the 29th, followed by a visit to South Korea.
