On the 23rd, the Hanwha LifePlus, the only international team competition on the LPGA Tour, was held at New Korea CC in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea.
Japan was unable to win a single game in the four-ball format on the first day of the International Crown. On that day, Japan had one draw and one loss, leaving them with 0.5 points and at the bottom of Group B.
The reason behind Japan's success was the performance of Lydia Ko (New Zealand), a member of the world team. Before the tournament, Japan was the country that players had most likely to win.
Along with Thailand's Wickle, Choi Hye-Jin, Yoo Hye-Ran, and world No. 4 Lydia Ko chose Japan as the team they were most wary of.
On this day, Japan had the strongest lineup, with Yamashita Miyu and Takeda Reo paired up, and Lydia Ko, a member of the world team,
They faced Charlie Hull (England). Yamashita and Takeda took the lead after winning the first hole, and from the sixth hole they extended their lead by two holes, but from the 12th hole they were one hole behind.
The World Team was constantly in danger. Lydia Ko made a 3-meter birdie putt on the 17th hole, and the World Team was one hole behind.
The match continued. A draw on the 18th hole would have secured the victory for Yamashita and Takeda of Japan, but Lydia Ko made another 8-meter birdie putt, drawing cheers from the gallery.
A dramatic draw was made with this. The ultimate decision maker of the day was Lydia Ko. In another match between Japan and the World Team, Brooke Henderson (Canada) & Xu Wu
The Wei Lin (Taiwan) team won against the Saigo Mao (MAO SAIGO) & Furue Ayaka (AYAKA FURUE) team, and the World Team won 1.5 points with 1 win and 1 draw, and took the lead in the group.
In the other match in Group B, South Korea recorded one win and one draw against Sweden, earning 1.5 points and tying them with the World Team for first place. Sweden is in the top spot along with Japan.
In Group A, the United States, which won two games against China, earned two points and took the lead, while Thailand and Australia, which shared one win and one loss, tied for second place with one point.
China, with two losses, remained in last place. Team Thailand, led by world number one Gino Thitikul, tied with team Lee Min Young (Australia) with one win and one loss.
Japan has won a total of five tournaments on the LPGA Tour this season, making it the second most winning country after South Korea. Among them, Japan has won two of the five major tournaments this year.
In addition, the athletes competing as representatives of Japan, Yamashita Miyu (world ranking 6th), Saigo Mao (9th), Takeda Reo (12th), and Furue Ayaka (23rd), are among the world's top ranked athletes.
Japan has recorded a record of 100 points, which is also a strength of theirs, but their performance on the first day was disappointing. In addition, they will play against South Korea, which Yamashita Miyu named as the team they are most wary of, on the 25th.
