The South Korean government plans to significantly expand various support systems, primarily for small and medium-sized enterprises, starting next year, and create an environment in which childcare leave can be used without burden.
According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor of Korea on the 28th, the number of recipients of childcare leave benefits from January to September this year was 141,909, which is 100% of the total number of recipients last year.
This is a 37 percentage point increase from the same period (103,596 people), and already exceeds the total number of recipients for the entire year of last year (132,535 people).
These figures are based on the increase in the upper limit of childcare leave benefits from 1.5 million won (approximately 151,000 yen) to 2.5 million won (approximately 265,000 yen) per month.
This is the result of improvements to the system being evaluated, such as increasing the benefit period, extending the usage period (to a maximum of 1 year and 6 months), and abolishing the ex-post payment system.
