The Gwangju District Court in South Korea has appealed the decision of Defendant A (53 years old), who was indicted on charges of gross negligence resulting in injury and violation of the Animal Protection Act.
The trial court upheld the original sentence of four years imprisonment. Imprisonment is a sentence in which the defendant is imprisoned in a prison, but does not require forced labor.
One of Defendant A's two dogs that were ordered to be confiscated in the first trial died, so only the remaining dog was to be confiscated.
Defendant A, who kept two vicious dogs, including a Dogo and a Canario, at his home in Goheung County, South Jeolla Province, neglected his duty of care to prevent dog bites and has been involved in a number of incidents since March of last year.
The defendant was indicted for negligence resulting in four accidents resulting in bodily injury over the course of four months through November. Defendant A had allowed a highly aggressive dog to run loose without a collar in a house that had no fence or wall.
The dogs, which were not wearing collars or muzzles, ran out of the house and attacked passersby, including neighbors and delivery people. As a result, the victims were bitten on the legs and buttocks, and had to be hospitalized.
Among them, the victim in his 60s, who was bitten multiple times including on his genitals, was found covered in blood and underwent several surgeries, and at one point his life was in danger due to acute sepsis.
Some victims reportedly suffered from after-effects such as fins.
