South Korea's National Intelligence Service: ”The US-North Korea summit will be pushed forward after March next year”
South Korea's National Intelligence Service (NIS) believes that the US-North Korea summit, which was not realized after the Gyeongju APEC summit, may be rescheduled after the South Korea-US joint military exercises in March next year.
The NIS reportedly made the announcement during a parliamentary audit by the National Assembly Intelligence Committee on the 4th. Regarding future US-North Korea relations, the NIS stated, "There is a high possibility of a US-North Korea summit."
"We believe that one piece of evidence of this is that North Korea has recently been accumulating a significant amount of information for international and North Korea officials and leaders in the United States," he said.
He continued, "U.S.-North Korea relations will be promoted based on closer ties with Russia and improved relations with China, and a U.S.-North Korea summit may be rescheduled after the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises in March next year."
It was also reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was preparing for a US-North Korea summit during the APEC period. The National Intelligence Service said, "Using the highly anticipated APEC as an opportunity,
The US-North Korea summit ended in failure, but behind the scenes, various signs have been confirmed that North Korea was preparing for dialogue with the US," he said. "We are analyzing the tendencies of the US administration's working-level officials regarding North Korea."
It has also been confirmed that Kim Jong Un is considering the possibility of dialogue, given that US President Donald Trump has expressed his intention to meet with Kim Jong Un during his Asian tour.
"It has been learned that Kim was hesitant until the very end about Foreign Minister Choi Son-hui's visit to China and Russia," he said, adding, "General Secretary Kim has the will to engage in dialogue with the United States, and if the conditions are right, he will enter into contact with the United States."
