Cho officially declared his candidacy for the general election. He held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Hall that morning and said, "Together with the people, I will pave the way for the two major parties that have not yet been able to go forward."
In his candidacy statement, Cho said, "When the party was founded, we accomplished the tasks of the times given to us by the people. Now, the people are ordering us to make changes."
"The first act of the Reform Party has ended," he said. "We must innovate with a new vision and new values and stand at the departure point of the second act," he added.
"We will re-depart from the people as Jungkook. We will be judged by our future, not our past," he emphasized. "Our top priority is to restore the trust of the people. The Fatherland Reform Party is now in its strongest position since its inception.
"We are also going through a difficult time," he said. "We must humbly accept the public's criticism. The public is ready to show their support again."
He added, "I will make the Fatherland Reform Party a strong small political party that is strong in reform, strong in the lives of the people, and strong in elections, and can win."
"We will take back the hopes that the people gave us in the general election."
