Large-scale kimchi-making event in Seoul, 500 people brew more than 10,000 boxes (South Korea)
A large-scale kimchi sharing event will be held at Garak Market in Songpa-gu, Seoul, an agricultural and marine product trading center.
The latter will hold a "Garak Market Kimjang" event at Garak Market from 10:00 AM on November 17th.
The event is a traditional event that has been held at the market for 18 years since 2008. On the day, volunteers including people who work in the market, local residents, children, and foreigners will take part.
Approximately 500 people will be making more than 10,000 boxes of kimchi. The kimchi, which will be made from approximately 80,000 Chinese cabbages and weighing 100 tons, will be divided into 10-kilogram boxes and distributed to 10,000 households in Seoul.
At the venue, there will be a lecture on how to make kimchi by a kimchi expert, as well as an experience event where participants can make kimchi themselves. On the day, a total of about 1,500 boxes (15 tons) of kimchi will be made.
In addition, another 8,500 boxes (85 tons) are made at a kimchi factory and shipped directly. Moon Yong-pyo, president of Seoul Agricultural and Fisheries Food Co., said, "Garak Market is Korea's largest agricultural and fishery product exchange.
"We are developing a differentiated business based on our expertise in our products. We hope to spread the value of sharing by donating the kimchi we made at this event to those in financial difficulty."
