”I want to go to North Korea”... A man in his 50s causes a commotion on the Unification Bridge (South Korea)
Police have arrested a man in his 50s for causing a disturbance on the Unification Bridge in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, by declaring he wanted to go to North Korea and damaging military facilities.
According to the police on the 19th, at around 9:47 pm on the previous day (18th), a man was reported to be wandering around at the south gate of the Unification Bridge in Paju City, kicking the fence for vehicles that was off limits.
The man, A, arrived at the Unification Bridge in his own car and, despite being stopped by military authorities, caused a disturbance by saying, "I want to go to North Korea," and kicking military facilities.
The police who were dispatched confirmed that military facilities and other items had indeed been damaged, and arrested A on suspicion of violating the Military Facilities Protection Act. Suspect A was neither a North Korean defector nor under the influence of alcohol. A was a police officer.
He is reported to have made a statement along the lines of, "Recently, things haven't been going well at work, so I was driving and this is what happened."
Police are currently investigating the exact circumstances surrounding suspect A.
