Bloomberg reported on the 25th (local time) that an anonymous source said, "President Trump's close aides and
"Key supporters see Hassett, who has supported interest rate cuts, as the most likely candidate to become the next Fed chairman," the report said. Powell's term as Chairman ends in May next year, but his term as a Fed governor will end in March.
The deadline is January 2028. Hassett is currently serving as director of the White House National Economic Council (NEC) and is a member of the Trump Administration's Digital Asset Task Force, which was launched in January of this year.
In July, he published a report outlining the direction of cryptocurrency policy and has been leading the policy formulation. It is also in line with the direction of interest rate cuts, which are part of the market stimulus measures that Trump is hoping for.
Hassett, along with other candidates, is positioned as one of the "cryptocurrency-friendly chairman candidates." In an interview with Fox News, he said he was approached about becoming Fed chairman.
Regarding the possibility of such a move, he said, "Of course I would accept it. I want to serve my country and the president." He also said, "I've already had many conversations with the president."
According to public filings, Hassett holds at least $1 million in Coinbase stock and is expected to receive a dividend of $100 million by 2023.
He was paid approximately $50,000 to serve on Coinbase's academic and regulatory advisory committee, which also includes Jay Clayton, a former U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Hassett previously served on the advisory board of One River Digital Asset Management and served as White House adviser during Trump's early administration from 2017 to 2019.
He has served as Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA).
