SM Entertainment donates tens of millions of yen to the Hong Kong Red Cross Society, hoping the money will be used for fire rescue efforts... aespa and RIIZE follow suit

Amidst the large-scale loss of life caused by the fire accident at a high-rise residential complex in Hong Kong, SM Entertainment (SM) has donated HK$1million to the Hong Kong Red Cross for the victims and their bereaved families.

SM announced this via its Weibo account on the 27th, stating, "We hope the donation will be used for firefighting efforts, subsequent rescue operations, and the provision of daily necessities."

Separately, SM's idol group aespa donated HK$500,000 to the Hong Kong Red Cross. They commented, "We feel profound sorrow upon hearing this heartbreaking news. We hope this small contribution can offer some support and pray for the peace of all those affected."

Another agency idol group, RIIZE, donated HK$250,000. They stated, "Our hearts were heavy upon hearing the sad news. We wished to offer even a small measure of support for the rescue and subsequent relief efforts."

Meanwhile, both aespa and RIIZE are scheduled to perform at the K-POP awards ceremony, the 2025 MAMA AWARDS, planned for 28th to 29th at Hong Kong's Kai Tak Stadium. The event organiser, CJ ENM, decided to proceed with the ceremony after considering the local atmosphere following the fire tragedy, reviewing operational procedures, stage arrangements, and script content.
