According to AP/AFP, Swiss voters on the 30th (local time) decided to extend military service, which is currently only applicable to men, to women.
The party is pushing for a national referendum on expanding the scope of gender equality, saying, "Women should be able to fulfill their national service obligations, such as in the military and civil defense forces, just like men."
Switzerland is a direct democracy, meaning major national issues are decided by popular vote.
Supporters of the Civil Service Initiative argue that the system will not only strengthen social cohesion but also address our needs.
"Everyone has a responsibility to ensure a stronger Switzerland that can face the crisis," he said.
"This is also the right direction for the future of 'achieving gender equality.'"
