This is a musical created in Korea. It is set in 17th century England, a time of severe class discrimination, and tells the story of a young man who had both corners of his mouth slit as a child, giving him a constantly smiling face.
Through the life of Gwynplaine, a man with a strange face but a hidden purity, the novel criticizes a world where social justice and humanity have collapsed, and delves deeply into the value of human dignity and equality.
The musical "The Man Who Laughs" will open on January 9th next year at the Seoul Arts Center Opera Theater in Seocho-dong, Seoul.
