Together with V (joint venture) NTT Docomo Studio & Live, we began full-scale production of the Japanese TV series "Stove League" in July of this year.
The 2019 SBS episode of "Stove League" featured the introduction of a new team leader, Baek Seung-soo (Nam Goong Min), to the Dreams, a team that had been ranked last in the professional baseball league for four consecutive years.
This TV series tells the story of how he takes up his new position and prepares for a new season. When it was first broadcast, it was well received by viewers, recording a peak audience rating of 20.8%, and ended on a high note.
This Japanese version of "Stove League" is more than just a remake; it is produced by Studio S in collaboration with a Japanese production company and is developing into a global business.
Based on a strong Korean original IP, the drama is expected to resonate deeply with audiences in both countries through adaptations tailored to suit the sensibilities of Japanese viewers.
In particular, since baseball is a popular national sport in Japan, attention is focused on whether this remake, which reflects the unique baseball culture and reality of Japan, will be able to provoke an enthusiastic response that is just as strong as that of Korea.
Meanwhile, the role of Dreams' leader, played by Nam Goong Min in the original work, will be played by Kazuto Kamenashi, a former member of "KAT-TUN" who is active in a wide range of fields including as an actor and sportscaster.
He is also well-known in Korea, and said of this production, "As a joint project with Korea, I feel that this new challenge is refreshing.
"I plan to respect the original work and add Japanese elements to it," he said, expressing his affection for and expectations of the film.
The director is Ruto Toichiro, who directed the "San's Love" series. Studio S has been working on a number of Korean-Japanese co-productions recently, and is looking forward to seeing a strong Korean IP like "Stove League" being produced in Japan.
He said he hopes the project will once again attract attention and be a success, and that he plans to continue expanding Japan-Korea co-production projects in the future.
