He was recently released from Incheon Detention Center following a bail decision by the Incheon District Court. The Incheon District Court Criminal Appeals Division 3 granted bail to Mr. A on the 26th of last month.
It was confirmed that the decision to release Mr. A on bail was made as it was expected that his detention period would expire before the sentencing hearing for his appeal, scheduled for the same day. According to the Criminal Procedure Act, the detention period does not expire during appeals or appeals to the Supreme Court.
The detention period can be extended for two months at a time up to three times. In the case of Mr. A, after the first trial sentence, his detention period was extended for the third time, from December 31 of last year to May 8 of this year.
In September 2023, Mr. A called Lee Seong Kyu (INFINITE) and said, "My phone has been hacked and I'm being threatened, and I need money to keep quiet."
After the police investigation, it was discovered that the hacker who had threatened A at the time was a former movie actress B (30, female) who lived in the same apartment building and was a close friend of A's.
In the first instance, Mr. A and Mr. B were sentenced to three years and six months and four years and two months in prison, respectively, and are currently undergoing an appeal trial, as they are not satisfied with the sentences.
